Mac

You can't have Bloo without Mac, so here he is. As you can see Mac went through a big change. He started out more of a "Peanuts" "Dennis the Menace" type kid but there was something about this design that didn't feel right. He felt dated to me or something and I could never really "connect" to this kid. So I quickly changed the design of the head there he was.
Only afterwards did my family point out that he looks just like me at that age. I can totally see it now, but at the time it was totally subconcious.

Blooregard Q. Kazoo

I know it's hard to believe that there was actual visual development on a character as simple as Bloo, but it's true. He first started out as a transparent nebulous shape then became solid and got shorter and shorter. It's almost as if the character was literally coming into focus the more I thought about him.

Sunset Junction

To make up for the long absence I'm trying to post more often. This is a bg from an episode that we just finished and delivered yesterday called "Bus the Two of Us." I really like the mood this shot evokes.

WOW!!

The Foster's episode "Go Goo Go" was nominated for a primetime Emmy award today! Also nominated was Cartoon Network's Camp Lazlo. Plus my good friend Rob Renzetti was nominated for his show "My Life as a Teenage Robot" in the one hour or more category. Way to go everyone! Congrats!

We're Back

AGGGGGHHHH!! I know it's been a while since we've updated, and as Wilt would say "I'm Sorry, is that OK?" The only excuse I have is that we've been pretty busy actually making the show. So to make up for not posting any drawings during the month of June (or most of May for that matter) I'm starting July by posting a drawing with lots of drawings on it. I did this piece for a merchandising proposal.

Imagining a friend

When creating a character I go through lots of really fast and loose ideas trying to find the right design elements that will visually define the personality of the character. Here is a page of some of those sketches I did when designing Wilt.

Dave and Tim Done it

Here is the production painting of Bloo's Fantasy Battle with Uncle Pockets from the episode "Bloo Done It." It was drawn by our supervising BG designer Dave Dunnet and painted by one of our color stylists Tim Barnes. Amazing job guys!
